Biography
Jose Javier Vasquez Monzon, better known as Javi, is a Guatemalan American bassist, arranger, composer and educator.
Javi earned his Bachelor of Music degree at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts with a major in Performance and a minor in Theory of Jazz and Popular Song. While at Berklee, he studied under the direction of Berklee Bass Department faculty Ed Lucie, Susan Hagen, Gary Willis, Mike Pope, Anthony Vitti, Danny Morris and Fernando Huergo and Harmony and Jazz Composition faculty Eric Byers, Joe Mulholland, Suzanne Clark, and Rick McLaughlin.
Javi earned a Master of Music Education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He studied under Music Education faculty Stephen Fairbanks, Donna Gallo, Adam Kruse, Pete Shungu, Bridget Sweet, and Michael Vecchio.
Javi is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Performance at Five Towns College in Dix Hills, New York. He is also the music teacher at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic School in Deer Park, New York.
Previously, Javi worked as substitute teacher for the Champaign Unit 4 School District and taught bass lessons at The Upper Bout in Champaign, IL.
